Foreign Exchange: Rates quoted on Yahoo Finance vs. Rates given by your local Forex dealer? The spot rate for the Swiss Franc has been around 1 to 1.05 francs to every dollar in the past few months, according to Yahoo Finance. When I ask a local Forex dealer to exchange dollar for Swiss Francs, they want $305 for 300 Francs which is quite far from the spot rate (and doesn't include the service fee.) I've consulted quite a few dealers and they all want more than $1 for 1 Franc. I've only looked at dealers and banks in the US.. I'd rather have a few hundred Francs in emergency cash when I arrive in Switzerland to avoid paying the ripoff rates at the airport. Even though $1 is worth more than 1 Franc, I'm still happy if I can get an effective exchange rate (after fees and royalties) of 1 to 1. Is this possible or am I not looking in the right places?
how can I get forex exchange rates sent to my cell phone, for example rates for USD/CHF?? I used to get alerts sent to my cell phone by yahoo finance. The alerts were time delayed but still it helped me, then Yahoo finance improved their site and now I can not get that information. I used to get quotes for EUR/USD AND USD/CHF AND GBP/USD. Any idea how I can that information again??
How can I get the best exchange rate for pesos from dollars while in Mexico? the banks in Mexico consistently give less than the advertised rate when changing dollars to pesos. for example today the rate advertised on the yahoo finance site indicated the rate was 13.04 pesos per dollars while the bank's best rate was 12.35 pesos per dollar. where can I go or what can I do to get closer to the actual rate? How can I exchange us dollars in mexico for the forex rate? I thank you in advance for your answers.
Trying to convert currency from US dollar into Israeli shekels. not going to Israel, HORRIBLE bank rates, help? I am trying to convert about 610$ into Israeli shekels to protect against devaluation. I have checked around on yahoo answers and they all say convert when you go to Israel, but I am not going to Israel. I am not trying to play the currency game, I have never done currency trading before but I am trying to protect myself. What is the best way get shekels in the US? I checked online (Forex, XE, etc) exchange rates are 1$ = 3.5 shekels (average) I tried to go to the bank (Its Chase I have a account there and they said they will not charge me ) and the exchange rate there is 1$ = 3.05, ouch. the shekel-dollar converter is 0.33$ while online rates are 0.28 cents. I wish I had some shekels on me already :( At the bank I was only going to get 1800 shekels (it was 1800 even, I think they are skimming money off the top the money didn't match the 3.05) instead of 2100 shekels. and they spelled it sheqels instead of shekels. somebody was there who hadn't done this before; maybe the messed up, but the machine showed Israel sheqels N my questions 1. what is a good conversion rate. 2. where can I find that rate. 3. any other fees involved that I should look out for. thank you for your help and sorry about the poor grammar gotchya on the exchange rate thing, I thought that the fee was charged as a percent of total money converted. I kinda thought $500-$3000 was the norm as far as currency exchange, I don't know a lot of people with $10,000+ who are not investors. with the Israel thing I don't pretend to be a expert but wasn't that a different currency dealing with inflation? like the old shekel or something. If I am trying to counteract inflation what would you opinion be on what to buy with that money. I am not buying a third of a ounce of gold but any other ideas would be appreciated. note: I will be away and will not respond for another 6-24 hours, I'm not dissing anyone :) gotchya on the exchange rate thing, I thought that the fee was charged as a percent of total money converted. I need $30,000 so I can trading stocks but I currently cant figure out a way get a hold of that much money? Ever since I was in middle school Ive known that I wanted to make my living trading stocks. I'm getting tired of paper trading, Ive developed a strategy that is a winner but I need day trading privileges to put it into execution. Ive always viewed the money markets (stock market, forex) as the best wealth generators available. But I wasn't born into alot of money and have no rich friends or family, so its extremely difficult for me to come across the $30,000 I need to start trading stocks with day trading privileges. So what I need help with is ways to raise the capital. I made some mistakes earlier in life so I don't have a good credit rating and Im not a home owner. The most frustrating part of it all is knowing that I have the ability to do something great but I lack the resources. so please pour in the suggestions. Email me if you have any further questions bjulyjayjr@yahoo.com thanks in advance
