What do they mean by the interest rates in forex? While buying EUR/USD, Profit is based on : interest paid on the USD loan and the interest earned on the EUR deposit. This is what is referred to as the carry for the trade. Carry can be either positive or negative depending on the differential between the two interest rates. Commodity Futures and Forex Interest Rates What's the Difference? I have been trading commodity contracts for about a year and have done good for myself. However, I have been considering trading forex as well. I know that interest rates affect the forex markets depeding on the pairs traded. Additionally, I know that interest rates affect weather you receive/payout on certain pairs, however, im not sure with rate drives this. Can I hedge against falling interest rates in the US dollar by holding a forex position? My CDs rates are falling because the Fed is depressing rates. That's also sending the dollar down. Since our economy is slowing the Fed will probably drop rates more. I'm thinking that if I pick a country paying higher rates I should offset a lot of my loss in interest income. I probably won't put a lot of money there, but at 100:1 rates forex accounts have a lot of leverage. Is this a sound idea and if so, what currencies have good "carry trade" rates right now?
Forex interest rates? I just opened a forex account yesterday and bought 500 oz of silver at 17.065 Today it says my average price is 17.079. I did the math and if they keep charging me that everyday, thats an interest rate of 30%! Is that right?

When determining rollover rates in forex, does lot size matter? From page 55 in Currency Trading for Dummies, I broke down the huge formula to: for long postion: ((x - y)bD)/365 where x = long side interest rate in decimal y = short side interst rate in decimal D = days b = exchange rate in decimal a would equal lot size. I dont think it does really. but this again is only for rollover rates.. just wondering

Foreign Exchange: Rates quoted on Yahoo Finance vs. Rates given by your local Forex dealer? The spot rate for the Swiss Franc has been around 1 to 1.05 francs to every dollar in the past few months, according to Yahoo Finance. When I ask a local Forex dealer to exchange dollar for Swiss Francs, they want $305 for 300 Francs which is quite far from the spot rate (and doesn't include the service fee.) I've consulted quite a few dealers and they all want more than $1 for 1 Franc. I've only looked at dealers and banks in the US.. I'd rather have a few hundred Francs in emergency cash when I arrive in Switzerland to avoid paying the ripoff rates at the airport. Even though $1 is worth more than 1 Franc, I'm still happy if I can get an effective exchange rate (after fees and royalties) of 1 to 1. Is this possible or am I not looking in the right places?

Do "Foreign" GOLD COINS have 3 values? Do they have EXCHANGE RATES? Do foreign gold coins (say, Canadian Maple Leafs and other countries gold coins) have 3 values to them? 1) collectors appreciation value and 2) Daily spot/market price of the gold itself and 3) the foreign exchange value. And also, do real gold coins (foreign in this case) fluctuate according to exchange rates (FOREX RATES) .
